The Project

Oil Lift and Kudu Drivehead Servicing Work Instruction
Equipment: Wellhead Driveheads
Date Completed: 09/04/2025

The Goal & The Challenge

Standardise servicing procedures across four different drivehead models while eliminating the improvisation that puts technicians and equipment at risk.

Our Approach

Write Safe AU’s field-first methodology focused on understanding the complexity crews face. Four different drivehead models, each with their own unique servicing requirements. Each with their own specific risks.

Days on site revealed the challenges technicians faced navigating between models, remembering different procedures, making educated guesses when documentation fell short.

The Solution

Model-specific clarity: Dedicated sections for each drivehead type capturing the specific requirements and differencesEach model’s unique needs explicitly detailed.

Comprehensive task preparation: Materials list expanded. Tools specified by model. Task preparation steps defined. No more searching for information scattered across multiple sources.

Common completion steps: Standardised procedures where models overlap. Consistent verification points. Unified safety protocols. Clarity on what stays the same, precision on what changes.

Enhanced hazard identification: Expanded from basic warnings to comprehensive controls. Explosive atmosphere protocols. Manual handling techniques. Stored pressure management. Each risk addressed with specific, actionable controls.

Visual integration: Photographic references throughout. Component identification. Correct assembly sequences. Visual confirmation at model-specific decision points.

Impact

The document expanded from scattered instructions to 23 pages of systematic guidance. Model confusion eliminated through clear sectioning. Improvisation replaced with explicit procedures. Guesswork removed through precise specifications.

Technicians now service any drivehead model with confidence. Same document. Clear navigation. Model-specific precision where needed, standardised procedures where possible.

The new documentation works across crews, sites and operator experience levels. One source of truth for four different models.

How We Write That’s Different

Write Safe AU’s approach recognises that complex equipment demands sophisticated documentation. Our methodology captures the nuances between models while maintaining clarity across procedures.

We document the differences that matter. The variations that create risk. The specifics that prevent incidents. Through systematic field observation, we identify where generic instructions fail and precision protects.

This model-specific methodology creates documentation that readily handles complexity without creating confusion. Clear enough to follow. Detailed enough to trust. Because servicing different equipment safely requires acknowledging those differences.

This is The Language of Safety. Clear documentation. Safer workforce.
